June 20th

it's been a quiet weekend so far. For once I don't have any pressing responsibilities. I applied to a job in the city this week, since its a 9-5, there's no need to keep nervously peeking at my email. Moving the big city has always been a dream of mine - I'm aware this somewhat contradicts my last post. Growing up in such a small place, I couldn't help but desire the opposite. Somewhere big and sprawling, where nights fade into days, and faces blend into the crowd. The few times I got to visit as a child, I looked up at every skyscraper to see what was in it. I imagined myself in those neat clean offices, a sleek business suit on, tapping away at my keyboard as I sipped a take-away cup of coffee. Of course when the busy week would end, I would descend to the lobby, my partner waiting there for me. "Dinner for two at our favourite place", he'd tell me, and we'd have an elegant time together. Tispily waltzing back to our fancy flat when the evening was done, the dimly lit streets all to ourselves.

Of course this a gross romanticisation, I basically do the same thing now. Except I live in a surburban town, in a houseshare and my fancy office job really is not that fun. I still have a wonderful time with my partner on Fridays though, but only rarely is it a fancy restaurant, usually its fast food. Still, a girl can dream of the 2000s rom-com version of her life. Whatever the future has in store for me, I hope its at least a little like I imagine.
